ME/YOU

2018 | Wood/Glass/Cardboard | 12”x18”

ME/YOU is a performance art piece that employs spoken word poetry and sculpture to create a unique atmosphere for the viewer. I perform a poem that embodies my childhood, aided by the light of my chandelier. The chandelier is a homage to ones my grandmother used to craft, and is made out of egg cartons and broken glass. Throughout the performance, the light changes based on the mood of the stanza being read, and I'm unable to see the crowd through the darkness even though I am in clear view. This places me in a vulnerable position, where the end goal is to see if connection can be made between myself and the viewer, even if the viewer is a complete stranger.
