THE WESTBORO PROJECT

2018 | Social Practice Project | Varied dimensions

The Westboro Project is a Social Practice Art project dedicated to the improvement of the LGBTQ+ community in Topeka and to rebrand the Westboro name. The goal of this project is to spread love and acceptance through community events, printmaking, protests and more. The project is a collaborative effort by Stevie Haley Delgado and Riley Boomer, who exhibited it for their dual capstone exhibition in December of 2018.

Leave Your Mark, the main event of TWP, occurred on October 13th, 2018. The community was invited to paint words of affirmation and love on the white picket fence constructed by Stevie and Riley around Topeka's Equality House. The Equality House is a symbol of love that was built to contrast the compound across the street, TWBC, and is an establishment of Planting Peace. Leave Your Mark encouraged others to converse about the importance of taking action and spreading positivity in the LGBTQ+ community.
